MIAMI \u2014 Un gar\u00e7on de 14 ans de Miami a utilis\u00e9 un passeport p\u00e9rim\u00e9 et la carte de cr\u00e9dit de son p\u00e8re pour venir \u00e0 Cuba par avion, par ses propres moyens, a annonc\u00e9 la cha\u00eene nord-am\u00e9ricaine NBC le 25 septembre dernier.<\/font> <\/p>\n

Alfredo Diaz, un cubano-am\u00e9ricain, a racont\u00e9 que son fils, qui porte ce m\u00eame nom, est parti de son \u00e9cole et a ensuite quitt\u00e9 le territoire nord-am\u00e9ricain. Le gar\u00e7on a vol\u00e9 de Miami aux Bahamas et, de l\u00e0, \u00e0 La Havane. On n\u2019a pas encore d\u00e9termin\u00e9 comment il est arriv\u00e9 \u00e0 monter \u00e0 bord de deux vols internationaux avec un passeport p\u00e9rim\u00e9. La police a dit que l\u2019on ne peut rien faire dans un tel cas, car le gar\u00e7on est en s\u00fbret\u00e9 \u00e0 Cuba aupr\u00e8s de sa m\u00e8re.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Views on Teen’s Escape to Cuba
Some reaction from fellow Miamians following the case of the Miami teen’s fleeing to Cuba, via Miami Herald letters to the editor:<\/font> <\/p>\n

Re the Sept. 27 article Student, 14, flees to Cuba: It was disturbing to me that the article contained no mention of family values, paternal love for a son or any reason other than materialism for 14-year-old Alfredo Diaz to wish to remain in the United States.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

I hope that material comforts are not the most important reason why the father is living in this country. I fear that many of our recent immigrants have come to the United States for a lifestyle based on material comforts. Perhaps the son needs more than Pizza Hut, the Dolphin Mall, computer privileges, an iPod and the \u00a0\u00bbother good things in life\u00a0\u00bb mentioned by the father.<\/font><\/p>\n
